Anchoringsickness showcases Beau Disundi Nzazi’s exploration of identity, colonial history, and global economic systems, developed during his residency at AKKA Project Venice. Central to his work is the makayabu, a dried fish linked to both Congolese and European traditions. Disundi's inspiration stems from the mutalaka, a wooden structure used to salt and dry fish in Nsiamfumu, a coastal village in the Democratic Republic of Congo. While not directly using the mutalaka, he drew connections between its form and Venice's wooden foundations, linking Nsiamfumu, Venice, and Bruges - cities intertwined with the global trade of dried fish and colonial histories.

Disundi's art delves into the colonial economic systems that shaped global social and cultural dynamics, reflecting on how colonialism continues to affect identity. His personal connection to this history is evident; growing up in Kinshasa, he noted the absence of Congo’s historical artifacts, largely taken to Europe under colonial rule. This dislocation informs his work, where he transforms everyday materials into powerful artworks that bridge continents, cultures, and histories.
