Michael Hailu Ethiopia, b. 1999
Fowskow watercolor series is a deeply introspective exploration of identity, interconnectedness, and the contrasts that shape human experience. Rooted in the African philosophy of Ubuntu, Hailu's work reflects the idea that existence is a shared journey. The term Fowskow, drawn from his childhood, embodies a sense of community that permeates his artistic practice. Through expressive portraits and a palette inspired by the dual colors of King Solomon, Hailu captures the tension between light and darkness, joy and sorrow. His creative process is fluid and intuitive, allowing each piece to evolve organically, bridging the material and the spiritual in a visual dialogue on life’s delicate balance.
