The recent exhibition by AKKA projects in Venice features to emerging artists able to capture the endless facets of being a woman in Africa. Urbanautica met with both artists to introduce their practice. Lebo Thoka (South Africa) in the series "It is well": an ode to Karabo, pays a tribute to women who have been victims of femicidal violence by showing them with dignity and not just as victims. She also plays with classical Western iconography by substituting traditional references with black characters. Margaret Ngigi (Kenya) aims to represent the wedding veil as a way to consolidate women's social role in the traditional culture of her country.
