Osaru Obaseki at the 33rd ICCROM General Assembly in Rome

September 2023
From September 25th to 27th, 2023, Osaru Obaseki has been invited to take part into the 33rd ICCROM General Assembly in Rome, Italy, as an active member of the ICCROM flagship program "Youth.Heritage.Africa".
ICCROM - International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property - is an intergovernmental organization working in service to its Member States to promote the conservation of all forms of cultural heritage in every region of the world. The 2023 edition of ICCROMGA has been a platform for experts and stakeholders to come together to discuss the future of heritage in Africa, which is the reason why a multi-disciplinary artist as Obaseki has been selected.
Specifically, Osaru took part in the Strategic Planning Workshop titled "Needs and Strategies for Capacity-Building for Heritage in Africa", also presenting her work Where I Sit.
The painting is part of a series of portraits of contemporary women that pays homage to modern days social and environmental realities. Osaru employes her typical medium and technique using a mix of sand, glue and acrylics on canvas. The work juxtaposes the artist's vision of what was, what could have been and what can still be, in relation to her origin Country, Nigeria, and perfectly fitting the main mission of ICCROM.
This experience has been the chance for Osaru to meet culture and heritage experts from across Africa, relevant international partners in Europe and having meaningful conversation.
AKKA Project is proud to witness the milestones in Osaru Obaseki's artistic and personal career.
