Njabala: Holding Space, an exhibition on rest, care & labour, at Makerere Art Gallery in Kampala, Uganda, opens on 8th March, 2023.
Njabala Foundation is a multi-faceted campaign focused on creating safe spaces for women artists to thrive and blossom. Njabala is committed in reducing gender inequality in the art world by showcasing the richness of the work of women artists in different exhibitions throughout the year.
The main initiative is the Annual Njabala Exhibition (ANE), that aims to facilitate visibility for female artists. This year's edition questions the efforts to rest and to organize time in a world designed to constantly exploit women. The show explores (mis)interpretations of rest, care, and labour, especially in the Ugandan context.
Among others, AKKA Project sustains and sponsors the Annual Njabala Exhibition 2023, sharing with Njabala Foundation the purpose of spreading Contemporary African Art in the world. Our Ugandan artist Pamela Enyonu has been selected for the forthcoming edition of ANE, and she presents some new works of art, specifically created for the occasion.
