AKKA Project is thrilled to announce the selection of artist Beau Disundi Nzazi for the 12th edition of the AKKA Project | Venice Artist Residency Program. The residency will take place from September to November, 2024, at AKKA Project Venezia.
Disundi's artistic exploration delves into the intersections of history, economics, and cultural impact, with a particular focus on the symbolic significance of codfish. He examines how this seemingly mundane marine creature played a pivotal role in global trade and economic expansion, particularly during the emergence of capitalism. This concept will be crucial for the artist's research in Venice, creating an inspiring connection between his native city - Kinshasa, DRC - and the Venetian lagoon.
The outcome of the residency will be showcased in Beau's first solo exhibition at AKKA Project Venice, running from November 23rd to December 23rd.
