APOLLO'S DECATHLON

Exhibition at Château de Montsoreau, Museum of Contemporary Art
AKKA Project had the pleasure of recommending some African artists from its roster to the curatorial board for the significant exhibition Apollo's Decathlon: A Conceptual Cultural Olympiad, running from June 14 to August 11, 2024 at the Château de Montsoreau – Museum of Contemporary Art, a UNESCO-certified museum, coordinated and selected by Lara Pan.
The castle will host The Cultural Olympiad by Paris 2024, a temporary exhibition featuring artists from around the world. This exhibition draws from a call for participation open to artists from the 203 countries participating in the Olympic Games.
Artists will compete in ten categories: painting, drawing, poetry, music, video art/new media, sculpture, performance, fiction, installation, and photography. Each country will be represented by one artist per category, chosen by a committee of art world members according to predefined rules.
For fairness, all submissions must be A4 format and in black and white. The exhibition will showcase black and white prints of the artists' digital submissions. Participating artists will serve as ambassadors of their countries and will be archived in the museum's database as part of a unique archival experiment. A book with the artists' names and contact information will be compiled, providing opportunities for global recognition and future collaborations.
The winners will be selected by an internationally renowned jury, including French curator Éric de Chassey and prominent collector Sandra Hegedus, with a prize conceived by the Arts and Language group. The names of the top three winners in each category will be announced on the @chateaudemontsoreau Instagram account on August 11, the last day of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
