Sharp, innovative and brimming with creativity, Mário Macilau’s work will be displayed at AKKA Project, Dubai, showcasing the struggle and deprivation of essential needs, in an exhibition titled Speaking… and There Is Still No One to Hear Me, from 9th October to 17th November, 2018 in Al Quoz.
AKKA Project introduces multi award winner, Mário Macilau’s innovative work to Dubai’s vibrant art scene.
Macilau was named one of Foreign Policy’s ‘100 Leading Global Thinkers’ at a ceremony in Washington DC in 2015. A global multiple awards winner, Mário first embarked on his passion for photography in Mozambique in 2003, when he traded his mother’s cell phone for a camera.
A born activist, Mario prides himself in his work for Walking Together (WT), a project for children’s rights, which provides access to education for girls and women.
Some of his notable exhibitions include ‘The Road Not Taken’ at The Auction Room, London (2015), ‘Nada Como O Tempo’ curated by Berry Bickle at Kulungwana Gallery in Maputo (2015), ‘Fora da Cidade’ at Blank Projects, Cape Town (2014) and ‘Moments of Transition’ at Belo-Galsterer Gallery, Lisbon (2014).
Given that his work is displayed in many private and public collections, it comes as no surprise that AKKA Project takes great pride in showcasing his work in Dubai.
Together, the union of Mario’s engaging work and AKKA’s buzzing name in Dubai’s art scene aims to pose questions regarding struggle and deprivation, highlighting the importance of essential needs from an artistic mindset.
The VIP Preview of the exhibition will take place at 7PM on October 8th, 2018.
