"There is always a need for artistic solutions. Whatever the problem is, it is up to you as an artist to come up with ways of how to solve it without limiting yourself."
Concurrently with the 18th Biennale of Architecture in Venice, AKKA Project Venice presents a solo show by the Kenyan emerging artist Allan Kioko: Mangbetu People, exhibiting his latest works after the success he gained in 2022 with the project African Identities held by AKKA Project. The exhibition runs from June 17th to August 26th, 2023.
Born in Nairobi, Kenya, Allan is an expressive painter and a lover of bold strokes, color and textures. His artwork is done using acrylic on canvas and watercolor on paper, deemed as thought provoking, humorous and sometimes controversial. To paint his subjects, Allan draws inspiration from the Mangbetu People, an ancient tribe coming from the West side of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
