Baraka, stage name for Joseph Baraka Munyao Mutuku, is a contemporary artist born and raised in Nairobi, Kenya.
He is a self-taught fine artist and painted professionally for over six years, indeed, he started painting in 2014 experimenting with vibrant colors and a contemporary surrealist style. His inspiration comes from the human interactions he observes and his art gives us images of a culture he was surrounded by in his youth in Kenya. So, he paints a kind of African lifestyle. Not only he describes, but he celebrates black images and identities that shape his society, therefore he can be defined as a painter of Modern Kenyan culture. Baraka brings imaginative interpretations through a certain choice of bright colors, which lets us discover his inner creative thoughts.
The artist performed at the United Nations Kenya, Kenya Museum of art & culture and Pan Africans hotel. Baraka gained the attention of several art collectors both locally and internationally.
