The Urban Landscape | Group Exhibition

“The Urban Landscape”a collective exhibition dedicated to city landscapes and urban life, beyond social distancing. The exhibition begins by presenting the inhabitants of this urban landscape, the XXIst century human beings:
Metamorphosis of a humanoid face – Untitled by Goncalo Mabunda (Monzabico), captures the gaze of the passerby.
Gliding figures with colourful clothes – Yellow Notice, Rabab, Strength by Linda Hollier (South Africa) |
A candid and delicate face, created through a happening performance – Uncertainty XI by Vincent Osemwegie (Nigeria) – disorients the visitor, while faced to the unknown future of a newborn generation.
Eyes are then captured by the bright and musical colours of an imagined African city – Untitled by Ronex Ahimbisibwe (Uganda) – which introduces the sharp geometries and folded perspectives of urban landscapes.
A chaotic rhythm and an assemblage of bodies – Untitled I, Untitled II and The Door of Mafalala by Rodrigo Mabunda (Mozambique) – evokes the busy life of a metropolis.
The exhibition ends with a drawn statuary figure holding an apple – Fruit by Peteros Ndunde (Kenya) – which leaves the visitor an unanswered question: which destiny and redemption awaits the urban landscape of tomorrow? The “The Urban Landscape” exhibition has been curated by Lidija Kostic Khachatourian, the founder of AKKA Project, and presents the artworks of five contemporary artists from four different African countries.
